Our tip:

Don't set your mind in stone until a few days ahead. Check the weather forecast and plan accordingly. It often shines on one Tasmanian coastline when rainy/windy on the other. The itinerary suggested below can be done in reverse, being a full loop of Tasmania.


Day 1: Hobart to Cockle Creek


Begin your journey south from Hobart to the remote Cockle Creek. Enjoy the drive through lush forests and alongside beautiful coastlines. Once at Cockle Creek, explore the pristine beaches and take a short hike to South East Cape for stunning views. The drive itself is an introduction to the diverse landscapes Tasmania offers, transitioning from urban settings to untamed wilderness.

Spend your afternoon soaking in the serenity of this southernmost point accessible by vehicle. You might spot some of Tasmania's unique wildlife or enjoy a picnic by the water. As night falls, the remote location provides an excellent opportunity for stargazing.

Day 2: Hartz Peak


Head north to the Hartz Mountains National Park. Challenge yourself with a hike up Hartz Peak for breathtaking views of the southwest wilderness. Keep an eye out for unique flora and fauna along the way. The hike is both challenging and rewarding, offering panoramic views that stretch as far as the eye can see.

Day 5: Queenstown and Strahan
